Tips for Making Your Home Fall-Ready

Dec 14th 2021

Bringing in the fall season means our summer vacations have come to an end, and we’re all headed back to our homes to kick up our feet and rest, embracing the cooler weather. Some may miss the longer days and the summer heat, the brighter colors of summer, but the transition into autumn can be one of the best times of year. Taking inspiration from the changing of the season, it is easy to turn your home into a cozy oasis with a few simple changes.

Color Changes

As the leaves change their colors, mingling golds and reds and browns, you too should you change the hues of your home. Embrace the warmth of burnt orange, peach, beige, mustard, terra cotta, and chocolate brown to encapsulate the fall spirit in your living space. An effortless way to add a pop of fall color to your décor is with a dark-to-neutral area rug, one that will add contrast and depth to your space.

Cozy Spaces

Sometimes re-arranging your existing furniture around your home makes an enormous difference in the flow of your space, especially when embracing a theme like the autumn season. If you are a bookworm, this can be as easy as angling chairs into a corner and lining those walls with unique, dark-wood shelves, creating a comfortable and warm book nook! The same can be done with a bench under a window, or a set of floor pillows near the fireplace. If you are not a book person, you can rearrange furniture in a central-facing design, making the area appear homier, allowing anyone using the furniture to be nearer to one another.

Pillows

Adding a fall-themed or autumn-patterned throw pillow to your previously neutral space makes a world of difference when ringing in the fall season. Not only are pillows one of the coziest décor items to use, but they have the power to draw the entire room together as a focal point of color, whether they are patterned, graphic, or are a solid autumn shade!

Candles

Candles are one of the easiest and most recognized fall décor items that can bring your home together. They come in plenty of different fall scents like vanilla, warm cider, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, candied apple, as well as other scents that bring the outdoors through your front door, like pine needles, campfire, or fallen leaves. Lighting a fall-scented candle creates an ambience for your home, tying the scenery together with both warmth and scent, which come together to fully complete your space.

Decoration

Jazzing up your space with a handful of other, smaller decorations is key to bringing a fall theme together. Items like amber glass candle holders, decorative pumpkins, or even dry leaf potpourri can make your home feel more cohesive and united. Decorative pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes, as well as in a handful of assorted colors – green, orange, burgundy, yellow, and white – that can be used in several different areas throughout your home, like a mantle, a fireplace, an end table, and so on. In addition to the pillows, use a deep rattan basket to hold several fall-colored throw blankets or quilts, always within reach for those colder nights for you or your guests. Other décor items to spice up your space are wooden lanterns, neutral-hues vases, bowls, or baskets filled with pinecones, or garland to be hung.

And lastly, Outdoor Space

Your home cannot be completely tied together without the finishing touches of bringing your fall décor all the way to the entryway. A fall-themed doormat or a red-and-orange wreath can allow your front door to make a warm statement, or you can bring the decorative pumpkins out onto your porch to keep the theme smooth from entry to exit.

And once your home is finished, sit back on the couch with your pillows and blankets, have some warm cider or mulled wine, and bask in the season. Follow the example of the leaves, dancing as they fall from the trees, and enjoy your fall!
